Southwest Dirt Racing Assocation

 

1. The rules and/or regulations set forth herein do not express or imply warranty of safety from publication of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations, they are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are no way a guarantee against injury.


2. SWDRA rules shall apply at all SWDRA sanctioned events.


3. SWDRA officials have full authority over SWDRA sanctioned events. At the discretion of SWDRA officials, any competitor may be disqualified for rules violation, hazardous actions, assaults or threats against any official.
 

4. All SWDRA race cars subject to be inspected by SWDRA officials at any time.
 

5. All cars must have fuels cells – 32 gallon maximum in completely enclosed 18 gauge steel container. No aluminum allowed.  All fuel cells must be completely visible.  All cells must have a minimum of 2 – 2” x 1/8” steel straps surrounding them.  Any driver having a fuel cell able to hold more than 32 gallons of fuel loses all winnings and points for that night and is fined $1,000.  Any driver must drain fuel when asked and have it filled and measured any night.


6. Minimum 1 ½” outside diameter (OD.) tubing braced loop behind cell, this hoop must be in place at all times.


7. Fuel cells cannot be lower than the bottom of quick change.


8. Fire resistant uniforms, gloves and neck collars mandatory.  Window net on drivers side mandatory.


9. Fire resistant underwear and socks recommended, but not mandatory.


10. Halon fire extinguisher system recommended, but not required.


11. A 1 ½” 18 gauge steel drive shaft loop mandatory.


12. All round tube chassis must be a minimum of 1 ¾” OD tubing with minimum wall thickness of .083.  Must use 4130 chrome moly steel.


13. Body must conform to attached late model drawing.


14. All cars must have tow hook for towing purposes only, cable or chain preferred. 
Tow hook cannot extend in front of car or have battering ran capabilities.


15. No rub rails.  No mirrors.  No radios allowed in race car, or on anyone connected with car.


16. All roofs must be 41” minimum to 54” maximum front to back, 48” minimum to 52” maximum side to side.
Rounded and tapered stock appearing roofs only.  No partial roofs, no flat roofs, no tilted roofs, no dished out roofs. No wings attached to roof or to side posts.  No built in air dams, must be stock appearing.  No Lexan roofs or sail panels.

17. All roof posts must meet outside of car.


18. Side vents on front roof supports can extend back no further than 16” bottom, then straight up to roof for L configuration, side vents must meet outside of car.


19. All structural tubing must remain inside body.


20. All added weights must be white or silver, with driver’s number painted on them.


21. All added weights must be securely mounted to car with minimum of 2 ½” bolts through each 50 lbs of
added weight.  No weights on rear bumper or outside body of car. All added weight to be mounted below windows and interior sheet metal.


22. Interior of car must be 12” below roll cage minimum, all areas of roof, from front to behind drivers seat, no area of the interior of cockpit can be less than 12” below the roof and roll cage, for safety and ease of exiting
of car from either side.  All 4 windows must have 12” of clearance minimum straight up and down. Side windows 15” minimum at angle to door.  No support bars blocking right exit from cockpit allowed. Rock guard must end at steering wheel for 12” of clearance and ease of exit from right side of car.


23.  Rear roof post supports must meet outside of car on a flat straight line, and be stock appearing.
Minimum width on bottom 18” minimum width on top 8”.  Maximum width on bottom for solid post 24” and maximum width on top for solid post 12”.  Maximum width on bottom of post with window 43” and maximum width on top of post with window 17” straight, the slope down to end with bottom at least 20” or greater from rear of trunk.


24. Any sun shield must be on a hinge for easy exit. No taping allowed that brings window opening to less than 12”.


25. No wings of any kind allowed in cockpit or under trunk, no tunnels or wings of any kind inside car or underneath car for special ground hugging effects.  Rear inner mud shield must end at tail section of transmission with a maximum length of 18”.


26. Rear quarter panels cannot be higher than any portion of rear trunk.  No tolerance. Trunk cannot be longer than quarter panels.  Trunk must be level for 32” from rear of trunk.


27. No side fins of any kind along the entire length of car.  Interior of car maybe dropped.


28. Tire clearances from body at least 2”.  No wheel skirts.


29.  8” maximum spoiler with aluminum block engine, 10” maximum spoiler with steel block engine, total material measured from trunk to tip of material.  If aluminum angle is used to brace upper edge of spoiler, it may not add to the overall height or length.  Aluminum angle must be turned over so it doesn’t continue off the top edge of spoiler.  Maximum width of spoiler is 72”.


30.  Side spoiler supports must not exceed SWDRA inspectors’ template.  The entire support must be on trunk. 
There are three approved styles of spoiler supports – UMP style, MLRA style, or World of Outlaw/MARS style. Measurements for spoiler supports are on attached drawing. Top of support can have a strength bend of no more than 1/2” at a slight angle.  Maximum of THREE spoiler supports. Third spoiler support may be replaced by two 1 inch aluminum braces.


31. Minimum height to top of roof 45”.  Maximum height 48”.


32. Maximum height to top of trunk 35”.  Maximum height top of spoiler 43”.


33. Maximum height to top of hood or front fenders 36”.  No portion of hood to exceed 36”. 
Must be level and flat from side to side.  Fenders cannot gain height from rear to front.


34.  Maximum width from extreme outside of front tire to extreme outside of front tire 90” maximum. No t
olerance. Maximum width from outside rear tire to outside of rear tire 88” maximum. No tolerance.  No more than 8” of any tire outside of body.


35.  Maximum body width to be measured by template.  Cockpit top 76” and bottom 82” maximum
for appearance only.  Rear of car 72” top and bottom.  Middle of rear can extend to 74”. Nose side extensions must be flexible and may not extend outside front tires with wheels pointing straight ahead. Nose side extensions are not to flare out or up.  Top must be flush with fenders and hood. They cannot alter original shape of nosepiece and must be braced with collapsible supports.  (No steel supports). Hub to front of stock nose 48” maximum, hub to front of non-stock nose 40”.


36.  Minimum weight after race with driver 2300 lbs with aluminum block engine, 2250 lbs with steel block engine. 
All weight determinations will measured on scales selected and determined by SWDRA for each racing event. NO TOLERANCE!  1 lb light is illegal.


37. Rear offsets are illegal. Must be equally tapered towards the center of car. 
All cars must be able to drive onto scales without lifting adjustments.


38. No rear push bars to extend over 6” beyond rear quarter panel.


39. No adjustable shocks, hydraulic or pneumatic weight jacks, trackers, MSD boxes or similar adjustable components of any kind inside cockpit of car.  No taping over.  Must be removed from car.


40. No electronic or computerized wheel spin traction control devices permitted. 
No controlled timing device attached to or controlling accelerator or rotation of wheel allowed.


41. Solid steering wheel for protection of wrists recommended, but not required.


42. The firewall at front of cockpit shall be a wall of protection against fire from the engine compartment. I
t shall be tightly solid (metal) from top to bottom.  Not allowing airflow from the engine compartment into the cockpit.


43. Engine: maximum 6” setback from center of ball joint to front spark plug hole, no tolerance.


44. 1 – 4 barrel carburetor, no fuel injection, no electric fuel pumps.


45. No use of nitrous oxide, nitrous methane, propylene oxide, or any oxygen enhancing additive.
All fuel is subject to be sampled at any time during a SWDRA event.


46. All engines limited to 1 spark plug and 2 valves per cylinder.  No duel magnetos.


47. All headers must be pointed away from ground, horizontal, preferably to outside of car.


48.  All cars will be required to have mufflers.  Any commercially manufactured muffler that does not
exceed 100 decibels at 100 feet is legal.  Mufflers must be securely attached to all cars. Pop riveting of mufflers will not be permitted.  It is recommended that mufflers be welded to the headers. The mufflers must remain inside the doors.  Any car that goes to scales after race without a muffler attached is subject to a $100 fine.


49. Tires and wheels:  Hoosier D55 Spec tires, Hoosier WRS D55 Spec tires and
Hoosier WRS2 D55 Spec tires 11 x 92, 90, 88, 86.  All SWDRA sanction events will run the same tire rule. All tires are subject to durometer testing prior to any race. D55’s will read 65 or greater. All wheels must fit template with 14” maximum width.


50. Any tire can be confiscated by a SWDRA official on any night at any track to be evaluated and returned within a reasonable period of time.


51. There will be no defacing or altering of manufacturer’s identification markings on any tire. 
You may not remove any letters, words, or numbers that would identify the tire. Any alteration of tires may result in immediate suspension from all SWDRA sanctioned races. No tire softener of any kind!  Tire softeners found in dirt of any race track may force EPA to close that race track.


52. Mud plugs should be foam or bolted behind beadlock securely to the wheel. 
Any driver losing metal or plastic mud plug on race track is subject to $200 fine.


53. All fuel cells must have check valve in breather for prevention of fire in a rollover.


54. All drive shafts must either be painted silver or white.


55. Rear quarter panels must be tapered towards center of car equally.


56. No direct drives allowed. Transmission must be bolted to engine. 
Must have forward and reverse gears. Must be able to shift to forward or reverse with engine running.


57. No derogatory or distasteful statements on any race car or hauler at any SWDRA sanctioned race. 
SWDRA officials have final decision on all lettering on all race cars and haulers. Failure to remove offensive lettering will mean disqualification from all SWDRA participation, and a fine of up to $500.


58. Any participant who fights in pits, on track, or on race premises will be suspended from all
SWDRA events for 1 week and fined $100, and placed on 1 year probation. Second fight results in 2 weeks suspension and $200 fine. Third fight results in suspension of all SWDRA events for 1 year and $1,000 fine.  All drivers are responsible for their crew members. All fines will be paid in full prior to competing in any SWDRA sanctioned events. All fines will be added to the season point fund.


59. No driver or pit crew member shall subject any SWDRA promoter or official to threats or abusive or improper language at any time.  Any driver or pit crew member who assaults or threatens any SWDRA promoter or official maybe fined up to $1000 and suspended from all SWDRA events indefinitely until fine is paid and reinstatement is approved by SWDRA.


60. All SWDRA racetracks will call or fax all results to SWDRA headquarters before noon on Monday.
